In 1991, the International Association of Fracture Mechanics of Concrete Structures (IA-FraMCoS) was founded. It is a non-profit organization, incorporated in the state of Illinois, USA, and democratically run by its members. Victor C. Li, from Ann Arbor, MI, USA, is currently serving as the president. The principal goal of the Association is to organize at regular intervals FraMCoS Conferences, dealing with all the aspects of fracture mechanics of concrete structures. It is planned to organize these Conferences every three years. The sites alternate among the various continents and countries.The series of International Conference on Fracture Mechanics of Concrete and Concrete Structures was initiated by Zdenek P. Bazant. The first FraMCoS-1 was held in Breckenridge, in Colorado USA in 1992, FraMCoS-2 was hosted by Folker H. Wittmann in Zurich, Switzerland in 1995, whereas FraMCoS-3 was jointly organized by H. Mihashi and K. Rokugo in Gifu, Japan in 1998. FraMCoS-4 was jointly hosted by Rene de Borst and Jacky Mazars in Cachan, France in 2001.
